Langkawi is one of the most wonderful and popular island in Malaysia. It has a unique heritage, and magical attraction, with unique culture, with the mystery of Mahsuri legends and abundance of natural scenery, from the hill view to the beach sunset. The location is 30km northwestern of Malaysia peninsular, and the island is part of Kedah state, which it has its own town, which is Kuah. And the most importance is the island itself is a duty-free island.

I have a chance to go there with two of my friends, since the other one cannot joint us due to some problem, which is ok to me. I start with the point of Kuala Perlis Jetty, which the place we can get our ferry. The ferry cost us about Rm 36.00 to and fro, per person. The time to cross from the main land to the island is about 30 minutes. We stay at Eagle Bay hotel, which is located in between the jetty and Kuah town. We check in the afternoon and eat some foods before all of us go to sleep due to the long journey of 12 hours with train. That night we just go around Pekan Kuah to see what see what we can buy and bring to home.

Today we can get our car, which is the rental car. We reach there with the aggrement letter with the pricing, the rental of car cost us about Rm 60.00 per day, since this company only serve for 24hours rental only. The car we get, not to blame others but very bad condition; the door, I mean all door are not locked together, maybe the central lock is dead, the steering is very sad, we drive straight but our steering is not align, no left signal which we always stop at the left side, and no spare tire.

The destination today is the Kota Mahsuri, which is one of the important places for you to go. Mahsuri is the very importance legendary in Langkawi. The complex consists of tomb of Mahsuri, the example of Kampung Kedah, some of the idea of Rumah Kedah, and much more. At t we time we arrive there is a performance of Caklempong; the local arts of music, very traditional. The ticket price is Rm 5 per adult. The ticket will cost you about RM 5 per person.

After we spend our time at Kota Mahsuri, we buy some importance souvenir if you come to this island, which is Gamat. Gamat is a kind of sea cucumber, and medical remedies in Malay traditional. The price in here is about Rm10 per dozen bottles, I mean small bottle. After that we going back to our hotel to get shower since the environment of the island is quite hot. Maybe since the island is close to the sea.

After that we continue the vacation with our main target, the cable ar. The cable car is one of the latest tourist attractions for Langkawi, under Tun Dr Mahathir idea.  The cable car is located at Langkawi Geopark. We don’t have much time to go arroud the geopark itself, just the main target of cable car. But this signboard is very interesting, and I don’t know how it can be in here since Kuala Lumpur is very far from here. The operation hour is around 10 am to 6 pm. By means at the evening there is no cable car operation, yes, it’s dark and you can’t see the beauty of the nature. The ticket price is around RM 15 to RM 25 per adult.

The cable car have two stations, one is at the peak of hill about 652.5 meters from sea level, and the other one is at another peak of the hill about 700 meters from sea level , you can see the sea level of one of this station. And the cable car also consist of one bridge that connecting other part of the hill itself. My point of view it’s like a hanging ‘highway’ in the middle if the forest.

After going down with the cable car, we are going straight to the Pantai Chenang to get some shoot of the sunset.

Today we watch the movie, at Langkawi Parade, and the movie is at 2.00pm. To wait for the movie, we just go around driving with the car. Suddenly we just saw an accident in front of us. There are two bikes, one from our side, the same direction and just pass by our car and another one is crossing the double line from other side to our side. Dam… The bike from our side hit that cross bike. There is no serious injury, but we can see how the person tries to control the feel of that pain. We stop by and help, I didn’t take a photo of the people, but I manage to get some shoot of what happen to their bikes. After that we just go back to the Langkawi Parade and wait for the movie. The movie we watch at that day is Los and Faun.

After that bored movie, (Adflin Shauki) which I though it should be funny and release the tension, but the movie need us to think, something that we try to avoid in this vacation. It’s ok and we just drive down to the Pekan Kuah. At that small town, we buy anything that we want to bring back home. One thing you must remember when you came to this island is, the island itself is a duty-free (like I mention before), so you can buy 2 things in here, one the chocolate, and two the cigarette. Both are very cheap and you can buy it how many you want. Just you must think back how to bring that back home.

And one complain for the authority is, why they put the waving roof cover for the pedestrian walk way. We already know that the five foot way is the public area for a pedestrian to walk from on shop to another. The way they put the roof cover not help much, just hiding the advertisement of some shop. In commercial way it just tries to bring you down. I don’t know what are in the mind (I mean authority).

7th December 2008

Today is our final day in here. We wake up and packing up our stuff, and leave our room. We get the jetty by 10am, which is we drop our car there (since the car rental is there). And wait for our ferry. The ferry supposes to be here by 11.30. But we only get our ferry almost at one o’clock. It’s some technical problem, otherwise it suppose to be in a schedule. While waiting for the ferry, I manage to shoot some photo of Dataran Helang, one of the importance places that show one statue of Eagle, that give a symbol for this island. Sit on a star platform and located very near to the jetty itself. And before we get in to our ferry and say good bye to this island, I attracted to one of simple architecture, nearby the beach. The attraction of this building it is for me look like a sculpture, the roof is very ‘gymnastic’ for some people. But it’s the way of architecture I like. Not like some other building that lake‘shoe box’ architecture. Ok Langkawi, good bye. And here we go mainland.

At the main land we are going back by bus. The tickets are already bought at the first day we came at Perlis. The ticket is about RM 43 per seat. The bus is departing at 3.30pm and we reach our hometown, Kuala Lumpur nearly 11.00pm. We arrive safely at Hentian Pudu Raya and all our parents are already there to take us home.

Thanks for reading and if there is any question or some wrong information in here, just comment to let me know. Enjoy you day, bye.
